About: A personality profile on Chef Sun Kim of the one-Michelin-starred contemporary Asian restaurant, Meta.
Chef Sun Kim has also made brave decisions throughout his career. After getting inspired from reading chef Tetsuya Wakuda’s cookbook in a bookshop in his native South Korea, he decided to uproot to Australia to look for a job at Tetsuya’s. Although he did not speak a word of English, he made that bold choice to step out of his comfort zone. He taught himself English within six months and for weeks and enrolled in Le Cordon Bleu in Sydney.
He also makes the biggest risk that he made in his career – opening Meta. He dived into the opportunity to start Meta a week after he was handed an empty restaurant by owner. He took this leap of faith despite not knowing any staff and not having a concrete concept of his food. He goes on to share now he overcomes this challenge.
